Its seeds are used as spice blends and as a flavoring agent and also used in traditional medicine. It is a rich source of protein, vitamins A, B, D, biotin, dietary fiber, and minerals specifically manganese and iron. The main phytochemicals present in fenugreek seeds are flavonoids, alkaloids, coumarins, choline, inositol, and saponins. The prevalent alkaloid is trigonelline.
Its seeds and leaves are common ingredients in dishes from the Indian subcontinent, and have been used as a culinary ingredient since ancient times.
