Description
Akpi Seed, a well-rounded seed about 1cm in diameter, with a yellow-brownish silky body (sometimes red-brown or black), similar to a rounded almond, produced by the djansang (Ricinodendron heudelotii) tree, which grows mainly in western Africa. It has other names in other countries, such as njangsa or essessang in Cameroon or wama in Ghana. The akpi seeds are collected and then dried in the sun, having a chocolate smell and an oily texture that can be used as seasoning for soup, stew etc (in it’s powdering form (Akpi Powder) ) or as soup thickener (when grinded into paste)
