Description
Sodium laureth sulfate (SLES) is prepared by ethoxylation of dodecyl alcohol, which is produced industrially from palm kernel oil or coconut oil. The resulting ethoxylate is converted to a half ester of sulfuric acid, which is neutralized by conversion to sodium salt.
SLES is an anionic surfactant with a broad application. Its excellent detergency makes it one of the key components of rinse-off products, as a primary surfactant. In addition to cleansing power, SLES is distinguished by excellent emulsification and foaming abilities, and compatibility with the majority of surfactants (all except cationic).
Sodium laureth sulfate is a surfactant that lowers the surface tension between ingredients. It is used as a cleaning and foaming agent. It is milder and less irritating than sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS). It is used in products like shaving creams, lip balm, sanitizers, exfoliants, hand soaps, toothpastes, body washes, bubble baths, etc.

Application & Usage:
In day-to-day products, SLES is an anionic surfactant, and it is used to produce shampoos, soaps, and toothpaste due to its emulsifying and cleansing properties.
SLES uses hand-washing and laundry detergents. Also, it is used in carpet cleaners and cleansers.
In hair products, SLES uses to produce dandruff treatment products, hair gels, hair setting sprays, and conditioners.
In dental care products, SLES is used to produce mouthwash, toothpaste, and tooth whitening products.
In grooming products, SLES is used to produce makeup remover, lip balms, foundation, concealer, facial cleansers, shaving creams, facial gel, liquid hand soap, and exfoliants.
