Description

Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate (SCI Noodles) is a mild, coconut-derived surfactant known for producing rich, creamy lather. It is commonly used in solid shampoo bars, facial cleansing bars, gentle body washes, and other personal care formulations where a soft, luxurious foam is desired.

They are a solid surfactant that creates a rich lather and are often used as a gentle, sulfate-free alternative to other cleansing agents, but should be avoided by those with coconut allergies.

What it is
Anionic surfactant: SCI is an anionic surfactant, meaning it carries a negative charge, which helps to lift dirt and oil from skin and hair.
Derived from coconuts: It’s made from the fatty acids of coconut oil and isethionic acid.
Gentle formula: It is known for being mild and creating a rich, velvety lather, which is why it’s nicknamed “baby foam” and is often used in products for hair and skin.

How it’s used
For solid products: The “noodles” form can be used directly in solid products like shampoo bars or soap bars.
For liquid products: To use in liquids, the noodles must be dissolved. This often involves melting them with other surfactants (like cocamidopropyl betaine) and a little heat, as they don’t dissolve easily in water alone.
Product types: It is ideal for products that need high foaming and gentle cleansing, such as shampoo, body wash, facial cleansers, and bubble bars.
