Octyl Methoxycinnamate (OMC)

Description

Octyl methoxycinnamate also as ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate, A clear, oil-soluble, “cosmetically-elegant” liquid that is the most commonly used chemical sunscreen. It absorbs UVB radiation (at wavelengths: 280-320 nm) with a peak protection at 310nm.

Description: An organic compound that is an ingredient in some sunscreens and lip balms as a UV absorber/filter. It is an ester formed from methoxycinnamic acid and (RS)-2-ethylhexanol. It is a clear liquid that is insoluble in water. Its primary use is in sunscreens and other cosmetics to absorb UV-B rays from the sun, protecting the skin from damage. It is also used to reduce the appearance of scars. Its also help the skin to absorb other ingredients.

Octyl Methoxycinnamate is a UV-B category 1 sunscreen used for OTC sun protection products such as sunscreens, personal care products, sun care, baby sun care, daily skin care, decorative cosmetic with sun protection and broad spectrum UV- B filter. Its Can be combined with other sunscreens that protect from UVA rays.

Octyl methoxycinnamate easily penetrates the upper layer of the skin and, when exposed to UV radiation, generates free radicals in skin cells. The maximum concentration in ready for use products is up to 10% in the EU and up to 7.5% in the US).

Usage:

This product is a good absorbent for UVB area. It can effectively prevent 280-330mm UV, and has high absorption rate. It is non-irritating to skin and safe. It is almost an ideal sunscreen for preparation. Sunscreen (paste, milk, liquid) and other skin care cosmetics can effectively absorb the ultraviolet rays in the sun, prevent sunburn, sunburn, and tanning of the human skin. It is also a therapeutic drug for photodermatitis.
