Description
Hydrogenated Castor Oil
Description
Hydrogenated Castor Oil (also known as Castor Wax) is a hard, brittle, and high-melting vegetable-derived wax obtained by the hydrogenation of pure castor oil. The hydrogenation process converts ricinoleic acid into stable saturated fatty acids, making the material more resistant to oxidation and heat.
It is widely used in cosmetic and personal care formulations as a thickener, emollient, stabilizer, and viscosity enhancer. Hydrogenated Castor Oil provides structure and texture to balms, sticks, ointments, creams, and lip products, while also contributing to improved shine, spreadability, and stability.
Its natural origin and multifunctionality make it a valuable ingredient in skin, hair, and body care formulations.
Benefits of Hydrogenated Castor Oil in Formulations
-
Thickening Agent – Provides hardness and structure to solid and semi-solid formulations.
-
Stabilizer – Enhances emulsion stability and prevents separation.
-
Moisture Lock – Forms a protective barrier to reduce transepidermal water loss (TEWL).
-
Gloss Enhancer – Adds natural shine to lipsticks, glosses, and haircare products.
-
Oxidation Resistance – More stable than regular castor oil, extending shelf life.
-
Non-Tacky Emollient – Conditions skin without a greasy or sticky after-feel.
-
Versatile Use – Common in lip balms, lipsticks, ointments, creams, hair pomades, and solid perfumes.
