Description
Glycolic acid is a naturally occurring alpha hydroxy acids (or AHAs). It is an exfoliants and helps shed skin cells and reveal the newer, brighter layers underneath. It is used often to treat scarring, skin discoloration and sign of aging, such as fine lines and wrinkles.
Glycolic acid is often used for light chemical peels, which can help treat a number of skin conditions including acne and acne scars, large pores, dark spots, and sun damage. While “chemical peel” might sound scary, peeling just means wearing away the very thin outermost layer of skin, which encourages the growth of newer, stronger skin. Whether you use a home peeling kit or opt for a stronger treatment from a dermatologist, using glycolic acid can be easy and affordable, and recovery is generally quick and painless.

– Widely used to rejuvenate the skin by encouraging the shedding of old surface skin cells.
Usage rate: Typical use level is between 1-20% (final concentration of glycolic acid).
Dilution guide:
– Typical usage level in skincare peels is between 1-20% glycolic acid/AHA.
– For making a 5% AHA peel, use about 7.2% of glycolic Acid 70% solution.
– For making a 10% AHA peel, use about 14.5% of glycolic Acid 70% solution.
– For making a 20% AHA peel, use about 28.5% of glycolic Acid 70% solution.
Note: For home use, it is not recommended to make AHA peels higher than 20% (equals about 28.5% of glycolic acid).
Optimal pH range from: 3.5-5.0 (Some over the counter products, after adding glycolic acid, will separate as a result of the low pH, and need to be stabilized).
Applications: Peels, creams, lotions, masks, cleansers. Due to it’s acidity the final product needs to be tested for safe pH.
