BTMS-25 Behentrimonium Methosulfate / BTMS 25% is a natural, cationic conditioning emulsifier typically used in quality hair and skin care formulations. It is derived from what is commonly called rapeseed oil.
BTMS-25 Behentrimonium Methosulfate Emulsifying Cationic Surfactant Conditioner is used for formulating hair conditioners, conditioning shampoos, and used in creams and lotions.
BTMS 25 is both a mild primary emulsifier and an excellent conditioning agent, providing elegant cationic emulsions for both hair and skin care formulations.
In hair conditioners BTMS gives users an improved wet comb and leaves hair with noticeable body and spring. Plus , it is perfect for using in leave-in conditioners. BTMS 25 leaves excellent detangling properties in hair conditioner products.
When used in creams they resist wash off, leaving a nice after feel on skin.
BTMS 25 can also emulsify many silicones (up to 50% in a formulation) and it is an excellent suspending agent.
Our BTMS 25 is a solid blend of 25% behentrimonium methosulfate in cetearyl alcohol. The active compound is comprised of a positively charged quaternary ammonium salt coupled with a fatty carbon chain. The cationic part deposits towards negatively charged surfaces such as hair, while the long carbon chain imparts a smooth and conditioned after-feel. The second component, Cetearyl alcohol, is a nonionic surfactant used to support the development of the lamellar structure of the formulation. Its inverted conical shape helps with the packing parameter of the quaternary ammonium compound, improving the viscosity of the formula and the spreadability of the conditioner. In addition, cetearyl alcohol imparts additional lubricity to the hair, making it a smart conditioning ingredient.
Compatibility In conditioning systems, BTMS 25 can be used in combination with other cationic surfactants to allow for fine tuning of conditioning properties, after feel as well as wet and dry combing.
In shampoo systems, BTMS 25 is also compatible with non ionic surfactants. In anionic surfactants, it can react to form electroneutral salts only poorly soluble in water. To avoid this reaction, an excess of the anionic compound should be used. pH stability
It can also be used as a co-emulsifier with Emulsifying Wax NF, adding its conditioning properties to emulsions
The typical use concentration can be between 1.0 to 5.0% depending on hair type and grade of hair damage.
