What is SODIUM BICARBONATE used for?
The acid-base balance of cosmetic products is managed using sodium bicarbonate. Sodium bicarbonate can also be used in oral care, as a deodorant, as a buffer, and as an abrasive in cosmetics and personal care products.
Skin care: It can be used to gently exfoliate your skin while sloughing off dead skin cells, which is especially useful if you have sensitive skin. It can be used as a body scrub and leaves the skin feeling supple and renewed. It can also be used to create nail and foot scrubs.
When it comes to deodorant, baking soda can be a good substitute, especially if you have sensitive skin. A dry or wet deodorant can be made using sodium bicarbonate and other ingredients. When applied topically, it may help reduce acne-causing bacteria thanks to its antibacterial properties. However, using baking soda to treat acne or to wash your face is not generally advised
Hair care: It can work as a hair clarifier and help reduce the product build-up of various hair products, by cleaning the hair well when mixed with your regular shampoo. It may also tackle greasy hair and can thus be used to formulate dry shampoos
Oral care: Some mouthwashes contain it as an ingredient. It has abrasive and anticaries qualities. It cleans teeth and gums mechanically, balances acid production in the mouth, and functions as an antiseptic to help prevent infections
