Description
Allantoin powder is a white, water-soluble powder used in skincare and cosmetics for its powerful moisturizing, soothing, and cell-regenerating properties, helping to heal wounds, reduce irritation, soften skin, and treat conditions like diaper rash and dryness. Derived naturally from plants like comfrey or made synthetically, it’s a safe, non-toxic ingredient that promotes cell proliferation and protects the skin by forming complexes with irritants, making it ideal for lotions, baby products, anti-aging formulas, and hair care.
Allantoin has a moisturizing and keratolytic effect, increasing the water content of the extracellular matrix and enhancing the desquamation of upper layers of dead skin cells, increasing the smoothness of the skin; promoting cell proliferation and wound healing; and a soothing, anti-irritant, and skin protectant effect by forming complexes with irritants and sensitizing agents. Allantoin stimulates healthy, normal tissue formation even at low concentrations.
BENEFITS OF USING ALLANTOIN:
- Moisturizing: Increases skin hydration and smoothness by drawing water to the skin’s surface (humectant).
-
Soothing & Anti-Irritant: Calms redness and irritation, protecting skin from sensitizers.
-
Wound Healing: Promotes cell proliferation, aiding in tissue repair and healing of minor cuts and sores.
-
Skin Protectant: Forms protective barriers, good for diaper rash and rough skin.
-
Keratolytic: Helps shed dead skin cells, improving texture and smoothness.
CAS No: 97-59-6
INCI: Allantoin
Percentage purity: 99%
Colour & Appearance: White, odorless powder.
Solubility: Water-soluble
Recommended Usage Rate: (up to ~0.5%), but can be suspended in thicker bases for higher concentrations (up to 2%).
Stable in pH range: 4–8
Mixing method: Incorporated into the water phase or during the cooling phase of emulsions, avoiding high heat (above 50°C/122°F) to prevent crystallization. Good agitation is required to thoroughly disperse the allantoin to achieve a suitable suspension.
Melting Temperature: Avoid high heat above 50°C/122°F
Compatibility: Allantoin is compatible with most ingredients used in personal care formulations. Water solubility at greater than 0.5% is an issue. Suspending Allantoin in a thick base is the best way to resolve this issue. When formulating, care should be taken to look for Allantoin recrystallization.
Precautions: Addition of Allantoin at 0.5% or more or at temperatures above 50°C (122°F) in aqueous systems can cause solubilization and recrystallization upon cooling into larger particles which are perceptible during product use.
Applications: Anti-aging serums, acne treatments, moisturizers, hair mask, soothing gels, scalp care products, shampoo, conditioner, etc
Packaging:
Allantoin Powder is sealed in water- and air-tight ziplock pouches to ensure maximum freshness and protect against moisture contamination.
Recommended Storage: Our powders should be stored in cool temperatures away from direct sunlight and moisture in an airtight container. (current Lot will expire No
