Description
Tinosorb M is a highly advanced broad-spectrum UV filter used in modern sunscreen formulations. It provides protection against both UVA and UVB radiation while maintaining excellent photostability.
Unlike traditional sunscreen filters, Tinosorb M functions as both an organic and inorganic filter by absorbing and scattering UV radiation.
Cosmetic Benefits Includes:
1. Broad-spectrum UV protection
2. Highly photostable sunscreen filter
3. Enhances SPF performance
4. Reduces UV damage and photoaginges
Functions In Formulation:
Here are the main functions of Tinosorb M in formulations:
1. Broad-Spectrum UV Protection
It protects the skin from UVA (aging rays) and UVB (burning rays).
This makes it very useful in sunscreens, day creams, and SPF cosmetics.
2. Photostabilizer for Other UV Filters
Tinosorb M helps stabilize other sunscreen filters that normally degrade in sunlight, such as:
• Avobenzone
• Octinoxate
This improves the overall durability of the sunscreen protection.
3. Dual Mechanism Protection (Absorption + Scattering)
Unlike many UV filters, Tinosorb M works in two ways:
• Absorbs UV radiation
• Reflects/scatters UV rays like a mineral filter
This increases the overall SPF efficiency of the formula.
4. Improves SPF Boosting
Even at small percentages, it can increase the SPF value of sunscreen formulations.
5. High Photostability
It does not easily break down under sunlight, meaning the sunscreen remains effective for longer exposure.
6. Water-Dispersible Filter
Tinosorb M is usually supplied as a dispersion, allowing formulators to add it into the water phase of emulsions.
7. Suitable for Hybrid Sunscreens
It works well in formulas combining chemical filters and mineral filters like:
• Titanium Dioxide
• Zinc Oxide
This helps achieve high SPF with balanced UVA protection.
