Description

Geogard® 221 is a liquid preservative blend combining benzyl alcohol (a naturally occurring component in essential oils) and dehydroacetic acid (a synthetic organic acid). Together, they create a broad-spectrum antimicrobial system effective at low concentrations.

Its versatility allows it to be used in emulsions, aqueous solutions, surfactant-based systems, and anhydrous formulations where water is later introduced. It is especially valued in formulations seeking certification under COSMOS or EcoCert standards, making it a preferred choice in “green” and natural formulations.

Mixing Method

• Add Geogard® 221 to the cool-down phase of your formulation (below 40°C) to maintain stability.

• Ensure even dispersion by mixing gently until fully incorporated.

• For emulsions (creams, lotions, conditioners): incorporate after emulsification during cool-down.

• For aqueous or surfactant systems (toners, shampoos, cleansers): add directly at room temperature.

✔ Important: Geogard 221 is water-based; ensure compatibility with final formula to achieve optimal antimicrobial performance.

Packaging

Our preservatives are packaged in sealed, protective HDPE bottles to ensure stability and prevent contamination during storage and handling.

Recommended Storage

Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and excessive heat, in a tightly closed container.
