Polyquaternium 7 is a chemical compound in the quaternium class of chemicals and is predominantly used in the personal care industry. It is a copolymer of acrylamide and diallyldimethylammonium chloride. A non-paraben, aqueous, cationic copolymer developed for improved compability and clarity in anionic surfactant systems.

It’s clear in colour, has a thick, viscous consistency and has a stable chemical structure. It is an anti-static agent and film former used in hair care products, such as shampoos, conditioners, soaps and other cleansing products. it works to prevent the build-up of static electricity and forms a thin coating on the hair shaft that is later absorbed by the hair, which inhibits it from letting moisture in and create frizz.

This product is regarded as a conditioning polymer, so it’s mainly used to help hair or skin feel soft. In some cases, the addition of this compound to a skin or hair care recipe can make the product spread easier on the skin or hair.
