Description
Mandelic acid belongs to a group of alpha hydroxyl acids (AHA). It has exfoliating, antibacterial and anti-aging effects. Works to accelerate cell turnover for a youthful complexion. It’s anti-septic and antibacterial qualities also help reduce inflammation, lighten pigmentation, improve texture and tone
It has a higher molecular mass in comparison to glycolic acid, it has considerably milder effect and is safe. Mandelic acid does not make the skin sensitive to sun.
Mandleic acid is an extract from bitter almonds. It is well known in the cosmetic industry for its line treatment with blemishing reduction properties. This makes it the perfect choice of peel for those with oily or combination skin who want the maximum line treatment benefits and blemish reduction properties of an Alpha Hydroxy Acid peel.
Mandelic Acid has been shown to be less irritating than other AHA such as Lactic and Salicylic Acid. Also, Mandelic Acid has anti-bacterial properties making this type of peel very suitable for acne prone skin types, which encourages skin cell turnover and boosts collagen production.
Mandelic Acid is Particularly effective in targeting acne, age spots, discoloration, wrinkles and enlarged pores while minimizing irritation. it also reduce pigmentation that is the result of excess sun exposure & acne scarring.
You can expect to see initial results such as a smoother skin within a few days, once cell turnover kicks and the acid starts to resurface your skin. You skin will be visually brighter and radiant. Blemishes will be reduced within 1-2 weeks and stubborn dark spot will begin fading within 4-8 weeks of using the cream.
Benefits of Mandelic Acid:
Dark spots, wrinkles, dullness, and acne are skin care issues that many people are looking to overcome. The good news is that many over-the-counter (OTC) products include ingredients that address these specific concerns while improving the overall appearance of skin.
Mandelic acid is one of these beneficial ingredients. While theres not a lot of research on this alpha hydroxy acid (AHA), its thought to be gentle on the skin and may help with acne, skin texture, hyperpigmentation, and the effects of aging.
Gentle on the skin
One main benefit of mandelic acid is that it may be more gentle on the skin compared to other AHAs. This makes it an ideal choice for those with sensitive skin.
This gentleness seems to be due to mandelic acid being one of the largest AHAs, and as a result, it penetrates the skin at a slower rate. This makes it less irritating on the skin.
Uses of mandelic acid
Mandelic acid can improve various skin care concerns, such as:
1. Acne
Skin oils, bacteria, dead skin cells, and inflammation can trigger acne. Using skin care products containing mandelic acid help regulate sebum production, unclog pores, and reduce inflammation. This can result in fewer acne breakouts.
2. Skin texture
The exfoliating action of mandelic acid removes dead skin cells, which may leave your skin firmer and smoother.
3. Hyperpigmentation
Mandelic acid may also have some lightening properties for dark spots, such as those seen in melasma.
